Chicago's Radical Writers

Speaking of radical lefty Chicagoans, I found this on the Chicago Tribune website today.

I think it is so interesting that Chicago, home of the mass market meatpacking industry would also be the home of labor organizers, and that local writers were so involved in the movement. No political movement would ever succeed without propagandists and Sinclair, Addams, Sandburg and others helped spread the word that the new economy was inhumane. So many things we take for granted today, like the 40 hour work week and WEEKENDS were all brought to us courtesy of the labor movement that these writers helped raise awareness for.
